I know students enjoy games, and using games to learn a language is a much more fun way to learn. Most often, in learning vocabulary, I have used matching and memory games and bingo. More recently, I've added the interactive whiteboard and the computer versions of matching games, where students as young as 3 can come up to the board and use the pen to point at a selection at the whiteboard. Now, a colleague has posted this article to her Facebook--and shows a Latin teacher who has taken online games for language learning to a whole different level! It's currently used for teaching Latin...but I can see the potential for use with other languages. It is a different way to immerse the student in a language...and so much more interactive than the traditional lecturing format. Could it be another trend? Only time will tell...(but I do wish that there was something like this for students to learn Mandarin Chinese)!
